It all started in 1972, with a small group of six families getting together to discuss pre-1949 American autos
and updating them to present standards. There was also a national organization at the time tyring to be known
and this small group wanted to try to get the hobby of street rodding started in Central Alabama and become
members of the NSRA.
These people were not mechanics or necessarily connected with automobiles as careers, but had the love of
cars as a hobby in common. As with any club, it takes a devoted group to get it cranked up, and just a devoted
group to keep it going.
Today, there are 36 families involved, but we do not just discuss autos. Each year we sponsor one or two families at
Christmas time and through out the year, devote time and monies to charities in Central Alabama.
The Capital City Street Rod Association has a Cruise-In at Flips restaurant at the corner of Taylor and Vaughn roads,
the last Saturday of each month from 6:00pm until. Where cars are put on display for the public. We welcome Antiques,
Classics, VWs, motorcycles and customs.
